The big deal about Drupal 9 is … that it should not be a big deal.

Upgrading from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9
Now is the time: D8 no longer supported from Nov 2021
Drupal 8 will come to 'end of life' on 2nd November 2021, which means there'll be no support, no new features, and all you'll be left with is a serious risk of security breaches to your website and data.
But the good news is upgrading from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9 is relatively easy and not much different from a regular version upgrade.
The key areas to consider are checking all your modules are compatible with D9, and ensuring any customisations are too.
With that in mind, there's really no reason to delay an upgrade and guarantee your site is not at risk.
Upgrading from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9
Your last big migration!
If you're on Drupal 7, then migrating straight to Drupal 9 is your best upgrade route to ensure maximum expected life for your site.
Yes, migrating from D7 to D9 (or D8) is a full rebuild of your site. But the move to Drupal 9 will ensure that you benefit from the continuous innovation cycle and new capabilities twice a year. Drupal 9 has hundreds of extra capabilities and more on the horizon, and once migrated, all future updates will be much easier!
Digital platform migrations are rarely straightforward, and that's why we recommend speaking with one of our experienced consultants to get the full picture.

We've upgraded from Drupal 8 to 9
We've recently upgraded our own Inviqa sites to Drupal 9 from Drupal 8. The process went smoothly and was completed in a matter of days. The insights and experience we gained we're now putting to good use as we help others upgrade their Drupal sites. You can read about our own upgrade here.
